The Abbeyfield Strathspey Society Very Sheltered
House is in Kingussie - capital of Badenoch.
The beautiful Highland town of Kingussie provides
all the modern convenience of excellent communications,
shopping, health, churches and care services in the
deceptively lazy elegance of a well-preserved Edwardian
ambiance. Only a few miles from the geographic centre
of Scotland and served by the A9 trunk road, the London
to Inverness main line railway and regular coach services
from Inverness and the Central Lowlands, Kingussie
is never too far away and always easy to reach.
Abbeyfield House is only some 300 yards from the
busy High Street with its Post Office, bank, pharmacy,
newsagents and a variety of food, clothes and gift
shops yet enjoys a peaceful setting with open views
south across Strath Spey to the hills and mountains
of the Cairngorms. The House also looks across the
tree lined Gynack Burn to the carefully landscaped
Gynack Gardens - which are well tended to produce
a colourful display through much of the year. Our
own garden is tended in consultation with residents.
This wonderful location offers many advantages:-
o Close to shops, services and medical centre
o Next door to Community Centre and Library
o 200 yards from Kingussie Station
o Town taxi service
o Nearby Wade Centre offers day care facilities
o Church of Scotland, Free Church and Roman Catholic
Church
o Bowling Green and Putting Green opposite the House
o Several good hotels and restaurants within walking
distance o Visiting Hairdresser and Chiropodist
o Personal care services as required
The Strathspey Abbeyfield has been at the Kingussie
house since 1974 and our Housekeeper, Lally Wilson,
has looked after residents for most of that time.
She has instilled an informal, discreet relationship
between her staff and House residents to ensure that
this is truly their home with independence and privacy
respected always.
The House provides the following:
o Substantial, attractive, traditional stone building
o Accommodation for eight residents
o Spare room for overnight visitors, emergency staff,
etc o Modern specialist aids including Stanna stair-lift,
bath hoists, etc
o Nutritious home-cooked meals, freshly prepared
in-house o Pleasant, sheltered garden
o Laundry room with washer and dryer
o Very experienced, fully trained staff
o Discreet assistance when required
o Low-key programme of outings and social activities
We appreciate that moving house requires a lot of
careful thought and discussion with family and friends.
Don't hesitate to phone us with your questions and
a friendly chat in the first instance. If you wish
to make an appointment, we will be delighted to show
you around and introduce you to other residents who
can tell you their views about their home. We can
often arrange a trial visit or arrange accommodation
at a nearby hotel.
If you like the idea of making your home at Abbeyfield
Strathspey but not quite ready to make the move yet,
do let us know and we will contact you as and when
suitable rooms become available.
