The
Abbeyfield Stewartry Society, which began in 1964,
makes a significant contribution to the care of older
people in Dumfries & Galloway.
We
provide Very
Sheltered Accommodation at:
Bothwell
House in Castle Douglas (9 residents) and at Strathdee
in Kirkcudbright (7 residents).
Each
of the houses has a resident housekeeper who provides
the two main meals each day and who is responsible
for running the house and giving the residents friendly
support. Most of the rooms have en-suite facilities.
When accommodation is available short-term stays are
welcome for anyone who needs a little support after
being in hospital or while their family may be on
holiday.
Both
houses are located close to the town centres and
public amenities. They have central alarm systems
in both private and public areas, and appropriate
chair lifts or elevators. Residents come from all
walks of life and most keep active links with the
local community. Visits by family and friends are
welcomed. There are no rules other than common courtesy.
The
Charges are maintained at a reasonable level.
At the present time the weekly charge is £185-£200.
Those whose income is insufficient to meet the charge
may be supported by the Department of Social Service
or by Housing Benefit.
Current
Availability – at the present time both Supported
Sheltered Houses are fully occupied.
