Lenzie,
situated on the North side of Glasgow, sprang up originally
in the 19th century when enterprising railway owners
built large sandstone villas then sold them, along
with free rail travel, to people who desired the peace
and tranquillity of the countryside but could still
access their place of business by rail in either Glasgow
or Edinburgh. Today the main Glasgow/Edinburgh line
still runs through the centre of our community.
Abbeyfield
Lenzie is a large stone villa set in the original
village at the heart of the community. We have accommodation
for nine residents each room having en suite facilities.
There is also a guestroom and housekeeper's room,
again with en suite facilities.
Recently a large conservatory has been added to the
house, which has greatly enhanced the comfort and
accommodation for residents. The house itself has
sunny aspects and is south facing but also has magnificent
rear views of the Campsie Hills. The local shops -
post office, chemist, newsagent, hairdresser, bank,
doctor and dentist's surgeries and library are all
very convenient, as is all local transport - rail
and bus.
The
village has three Churches all with active social
programmes. Locally there is a golf club and rugby
club, bowling green and tennis club. There is also
a nature conservation area and many pleasant walks.
We
have a caring Abbeyfield House with caring staff and
volunteers in a caring community but don't take our
word for it - please come and see for yourself - you
would be made most welcome.
