Welcome to Abbeyfield Killearn

to the Abbeyfield Killearn Society

The Killearn House is situated in the attractive village of Killearn in the Strathendrick valley within easy reach of Glasgow and Stirling. Our village is located in a low traffic density area off the main roads and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland whilst the house itself is in a quiet residential area. Most of the rooms and the residents' lounge look out on to fields descending to the Blane water a scene of pastoral calm.

The house was purpose built on one level with the needs of the elderly in mind and within reasonably easy walking distance of the shops, bank and Kirk. We have eight ensuite large rooms which residents furnish with their own furniture and possessions. Privacy in their own room is guaranteed for those who want it. Lunch and high tea are taken together in the dining room which also doubles as the lounge/common room for those residents who would like to meet together or just to sit somewhere different to watch TV etc.

As with all Abbeyfields, the house is managed by a group of volunteers who do their best to organise outings and in-house activities for the amusement and entertainment of the residents who wish to join in. Links with village organisations are encouraged and we willingly provide assistance with transport to meeting venues, the Kirk, Doctor's surgery, etc when requested. The day to day management, including menus, is in the hands of our Housekeeper who with other support staff maintain cover for 7 days per week and overnight. Should the house be unattended because the Housekeeper is shopping or enjoying her/his time off, an emergency call system to Stirling Council's MECS service is available which provides a security net to the community.

Whilst we do not employ nursing staff, any resident who wishes to use outside assistance from private agencies or the Social Services is welcome to make their own arrangements and assistance in setting this up is available.

Terms are moderate and fully inclusive. Residents on low incomes may be entitled to assistance and we will be happy to assist in investigating and facilitating this in strict confidence.

Potential residents and/or their families or sponsors are welcome to visit the house to meet with existing residents and committee members without any obligation.
