Welcome to the Abbeyfield Society for Scotland index page. This page has been designed as a completely non graphic index page to address inaccessibility issues that may arise for anyone using the other version.
Each of the member Abbeyfield societies in Scotland has a page of their own on the website. Each of the society pages give a flavour of life in the house or houses that these societies run and also a general picture of life in their own local community. Each of the society pages usually also give contact details for the society and describe the facilities available to current and potential residents in more detail. Occasionally, these societies are also looking for help. This can be a request for new staff or volunteers. Links to each of the society pages are listed alphabetically at the foot of the page.
Additionally there are a number of pages on our site that describe Abbeyfield accommodation generally, how Abbeyfield societies are run, using volunteer management committees, and allow you to contact us for more information or assistance. Links to all of these pages are listed below.
The Abbeyfield Society was founded in 1956 to provide care and companionship for lonely, older people. It is our firm belief:
Our purpose is to provide older people with their own home within the security and companionship of small households that can become focal points for goodwill and friendly contact within the community.
The Abbeyfield Society for Scotland supports their member societies, which run very sheltered houses across Scotland. Our site will give you details on the type of housing that Abbeyfield provides, what the quality of life is like for Abbeyfield residents, about the structure of Abbeyfield, where we are located and how you can help. We will also give you the opportunity to apply for more information through ourselves or by contacting our partner organisations.
Abbeyfield is an international organisation with houses in Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Belgium, Japan, Jersey, South Africa, the USA and the Netherlands.
The Abbeyfield Society for Scotland is the umbrella organisation that supports the member and affiliate societies across Scotland on issues such as advice on care, the needs of older people to health and safety issues. To do this, the Scotland office is assisted by experienced and committed volunteers, who provide this support on a more local basis.
